1921 Wills Sainte Claire Roadster A relatively small number of Wills Sainte Claires were built in Marysville, Mich., from 1921 to 1927. Harold Wills, longtime chief engineer for Henry Ford, left Ford Motor Co. in 1919 with a check for $1,592,128. His announced goal was to produce a car that was 10 years ahead of its time. Wills, who played an important role in the development of vanadium steel, and the even stronger molybdenum, had a flaw that greatly hurt his company: he was a perfectionist. Whenever he saw an opportunity to improve his cars he shut down the production line, which often cost him partners and employees.
